Indigenous Nations Directory

Discover public information about Indigenous Nations through voluntary listings, source-linked records, and an educational directory built around independent identity and institutional responsibility.

Directory inclusion is informational. It does not grant recognition, determine ancestry or citizenship, establish jurisdiction, or authorize representation of a Nation.

A Reference Directory, Not a Recognition Authority

The Nations Directory helps visitors locate Nation-provided public descriptions, official contact points, educational references, and authorized links to published documentation.

The Indigenous Nations Directory Platform is designed as a documentation and education resource. Its role is to present attributed information without adjudicating whether an Indigenous Nation is legitimate or speaking on behalf of communities it lists.

Participation is voluntary. Each Nation retains responsibility for its own history, identity, governing documents, membership rules, and public statements.

Five Fields for a Voluntary Listing

These are the five V1 listing fields established for the directory. Additional provenance and publication-status information should accompany public entries where available.

01

Nation Name

The name used or expressly authorized by the listed Nation or issuing body.

02

Region / Territory

Location information attributed as stated by the Nation, not independently adjudicated boundaries.

03

Public Description

Short Nation-provided overview, clearly identified as supplied or attributed content.

04

Official Link / Contact

Verified public-facing website or authorized institutional contact channel.

05

Public Documents

Optional official or read-only links; source and issuing authority remain visible.

Attribution standard: A submission must not imply that the Nation approved a joint declaration, directory relationship, affiliation, or public representation beyond what its designated representative actually authorized. A directory entry never replaces the issuing Nation’s own records.

How Directory Records Are Presented

A public listing should be displayed only after the necessary source, attribution, publication, and contact checks have been completed.

How Directory Participation Works

Voluntary listing should follow a consistent process to protect the integrity of each record and the independence of the Nation providing it.

01

Submit or Refer

A Nation or authorized representative provides a public description and appropriate official source or contact.

02

Review Attribution

Editors verify source provenance, publication authority, consent scope, and allowed public fields.

03

Publish Read-Only

An approved record displays attributed information and approved source links without implying delegated authority.

04

Maintain the Record

Corrections, updated source links, withdrawal requests, and dated changes follow an accountable editorial process.

05

Preserve Boundaries

Internal editorial decisions are distinct from any recognition, citizenship, land-title, or governmental determination.

06

Remain Accountable

Approved listing standards, review responsibilities, and correction channels should be accessible to participants.

Directory Questions & Public Safeguards

Does appearing in the directory establish official recognition?

No. An attributed listing does not create federal, state, international, tribal, or other governmental recognition and does not determine Indigenous citizenship.

Can this platform speak for a listed Nation?

No. Any public statement, governing decision, or declaration must originate with a separately authorized issuer. Publishing a link is not a delegation of authority.

Can a Nation request a correction or withdrawal?

The listing process should provide a documented review channel for authenticated corrections, removal requests, and dated editorial notes.

Are Nation territories or membership claims independently verified here?

No independent determination is made by this directory. Territory and identity descriptions should be attributed as stated, with clear references where available.

Increase Visibility Without Transferring Authority

Review the listing requirements, consult the education and document resources, or contact INO about a properly attributed public record.

Public-information notice: Directory entries are voluntary, attributed, and educational. Their presence does not establish official governmental recognition, treaty rights, external tribal enrollment, citizenship, diplomatic status, immunity, property title, or jurisdiction. No Nation delegates its identity or governing authority by appearing on this site. Listings must be verified against their designated official sources before being represented as published records.
